For community organizations, a website can be much more than a source of information. It can be the first step toward connecting someone with new skills, professional relationships, and opportunities for growth.
That idea was at the heart of SteadyRain’s recent work with District 8 Toastmasters, which serves speakers, communicators, and emerging leaders throughout the St. Louis region. Through SteadyRain’s Digital Hero Project, our team donated a complete redesign of MidwestSpeakers.org, helping District 8 transform its website into a more accessible, engaging, and discoverable resource for both current and prospective members.
The work was recently recognized by Toastmasters International, highlighting the impact the project has had on District 8’s ability to better serve and reach its community.
Turning a Member Resource Into a Tool for Growth
Before the redesign, much of District 8’s information was difficult to find and search online. Important content was often housed within PDFs, creating extra steps for visitors and limiting the organization’s visibility in search engines. The new MidwestSpeakers.org changes that.
SteadyRain redesigned the site with a mobile-responsive experience, streamlined navigation, and search-optimized content architecture. As part of the project, our team also completed a comprehensive content migration and restructuring effort, moving key information from PDFs into fully indexable web pages.
The result is a website designed to make it easier for people to find the information they need, whether they are longtime Toastmasters members or someone discovering the organization for the first time.
More importantly, the new site represents a shift from a primarily member-focused resource to an outward-facing digital platform capable of introducing more people across the St. Louis region to the communication and leadership development opportunities Toastmasters provides.
“Modernizing our website was an important initiative for District 8 Toastmasters,” said Patti Howard, District Director for District 8 Toastmasters. “We needed a more engaging, easier-to-navigate website that better reflected the strength and energy of our district while also helping prospective members better understand what Toastmasters offers.”
Creating a Stronger Foundation for the Future
Communication and leadership skills continue to play an important role in professional development. Organizations like Toastmasters give people an opportunity to develop those abilities through education, networking, practice, and community. Making those opportunities easier to discover online was therefore a central goal of the redesign.
Beyond improving the visual experience, the SteadyRain team focused on creating a digital foundation District 8 can build on over time. Better content organization, improved search visibility, and a more intuitive user experience give the organization greater flexibility to connect with prospective members and support its existing community.
“Partnering with the SteadyRain team on the redesign of MidwestSpeakers.org was a wonderful experience,” said Terri Orban, Administrative Manager for District 8 Toastmasters. “Their collaborative approach and thoughtful guidance throughout the project helped us create a stronger foundation for future growth.”
Digital Expertise with a Community Impact
The District 8 Toastmasters redesign was completed through SteadyRain’s Digital Hero Project, an initiative that allows our team to donate its digital expertise to nonprofit and community organizations that can benefit from a stronger online presence.
For SteadyRain, the project reflects a belief that thoughtful digital strategy and technology can help mission-driven organizations remove barriers, reach more people, and increase their impact.
“At SteadyRain, we believe technology should help organizations expand their reach and better serve their communities,” said Nicole Ervin, Vice President of Research & Development at SteadyRain. “Through the Digital Hero Project, we’re able to use our expertise to support organizations doing important work throughout the region.”
The recognition from Toastmasters International is a meaningful acknowledgment of that partnership and of what can happen when digital strategy, design, development, and community service come together around a shared goal.
What is the Digital Hero Project?
SteadyRain’s Digital Hero Project is an initiative created to help nonprofit and community organizations strengthen their digital presence through donated strategy, design, development, and marketing expertise.
Many mission-driven organizations have limited resources to invest in the technology and digital experiences needed to reach new audiences. Through the Digital Hero Project, SteadyRain applies the same strategic thinking and technical capabilities used for client engagements to help selected organizations overcome those barriers and better serve their communities.
For District 8 Toastmasters, that meant transforming an outdated and difficult-to-navigate website into a modern platform built for greater accessibility, search visibility, and long-term growth. By making information easier to find and the organization easier to discover, the project helps District 8 connect more people throughout the St. Louis region with opportunities to strengthen their communication and leadership skills.
Building Stronger Communities Through Better Digital Experiences
The District 8 Toastmasters website transformation demonstrates how thoughtful digital strategy can create meaningful impact beyond the screen. By improving accessibility, usability, and discoverability, SteadyRain helped give the organization a stronger foundation for reaching prospective members and supporting its community well into the future.
The recognition from Toastmasters International also reflects the collaborative effort behind the project and the shared commitment to helping more people access opportunities for personal and professional growth.
Through the Digital Hero Project, SteadyRain continues to look for opportunities to use its digital expertise to support organizations making a difference in the communities they serve.
